Importance
and attributes of Group Discussion and Interviews
· Group
Discussion and Personal Interview i.e. the Stage II of the competition for the
entry in the prestigious B-School is as crucial as the written test.
· Generally
majority of the aspirants plan to prepare for this stage only once they are
done with the written tests.
· As
a matter of fact the aspirants devote just 5 to 10% of their total time and
energy for this stage.
· Good
scores in the written tests are just half the battle won.
· Despite
of scoring very high in written tests many of the good students at times fail
to enter various prestigious institutes when they underestimate the Stage II of
the competition.
· It
should also be kept in mind that even if you have an extraordinary scores in
written tests, during the GD/PI you have to compete the similar category of
aspirants. For example if you have scored 99 percentile in CAT and have got the
GD/PI call from all of the IIM Ahmedabad, during GD/PI you have to compete with
the aspirants of similar score category.
· Also
as a matter of fact nobody enjoys the level playing field of competition in
this stage.
· Since
this Stage II gives lot of weightage to communication and interpersonal skills
along with emotional quotient and cannot be acquired in a day or two but
largely depends upon the factors like innate characteristics, socialization
process, quantum of exposure, medium of instruction while schooling and even
family background.
· So
if you are looking for some short cut to crack GD/PI stage believe us you have
clicked on the wrong website.
· While
no amount of reading is a substitute for practice in group discussions and
interviews understanding the basic rules of the game is an essential part of
the student’s preparation for group discussions and Interviews.
· However
no student should ever think that by just reading, he or she will achieve
excellence in group discussions and interviews. GD’s are like swimming while
one can learn some basics of swimming by reading but to gain the mastery one has
to jump in the pool of water.
· The
same is true in the case of GD/PI as well.
